RAPID CITY, S.D. — The COVID-19 pandemic took many people out of their normal routines, including working out and staying active.
In an effort to get people moving again, the YMCA began a STRONG Challenge to reenergize the mind, body and spirit of everyone in the community.
Ryan Messick, YMCA Membership Director, says, “It’s just challenge for you to get out, six weeks, five days a week, 20 minutes a day, trying to get out and do something and be active, whether it’s in your living room, walking around the neighborhood or anything like that.”
In the free, six week challenge, participants commit to 20 minutes of activity a day five to six days a week and get an accountability buddy to stay on track.
The YMCA will be providing motivation, challenges and workouts via text message with also an emphasis on service to the community.
Messick says, “It’s very important to stay active within the community, obviously just for mental health issues as well, when you feel better, you feel strong, mentally you just feel a lot better and are more engaging and more active and want to be a part of the community and help others within the community as well.”
Participants are also encouraged to follow the Y’s Facebook page for weekly challenges, like setting goals, playing more and even resting.
Everyone in the community is invited to take part in the STRONG challenge, click here for more information.
